At the start of World War ll, Commander Ericson is assigned to captain the brand new ship, HMS Compass Rose, with inexperienced officers and men.

Harassed by U-Boats and appalling weather, the men fight with true British heroism. This is a stirring wartime drama, capturing the desperate Battle of the Atlantic.

The film is based on the novel by Nicholas Monsarrat,
